“Nigeria is an oil-rich nation that has never had electricity,” she remarked. “Having resources underground is easy, but foolish public policy prevents their utilization.”
Badenoch also compared the policies she opposes in the UK to those of previous military regimes in Nigeria. “I see a lot of what Ed Miliband is doing as similar to the actions of Nigerian military dictators in the 1980s and 1990s,” she said.
She argued that excessive government control and wealth redistribution often result in economic downturns. “The government will take charge. We know best. We will redistribute. These are foolish ideas that can ultimately bankrupt a nation,” she asserted.

Reflecting on her experiences growing up in Nigeria, Badenoch indicated that her background in a developing nation heavily influences her perspectives on governance and economic strategy.
“My beliefs about how to manage our country stem from my upbringing in a poor environment. Growing up in a third-world country, I understand why it is labeled as such, and I don’t want that to occur here,” she concluded.
