Ogun govt bans graduation ceremonies and end-of-session parties in public and private schools

The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has mandated that all public and private schools in the state must halt the planning of graduation ceremonies and end-of-session parties immediately.

This announcement was made in a circular from the Department of Private Schools in Abeokuta, which was sent to both public and private school administrators through Zonal Education Officers.

The ministry stated that it had received reports indicating that some school officials were allegedly exploiting parents and guardians by charging them for graduation and end-of-session events.

This behavior contradicts agreements made at the stakeholders’ meeting for the 2025/2026 pre-resumption period held in September 2025 at the Lisabi Grammar School Hall in Abeokuta.

The circular clearly stated that the Ogun State Government disapproves of graduation and end-of-session celebrations for students at any level in public and private schools throughout the state.

Administrators are also urged to widely disseminate this information to ensure all stakeholders are informed and compliant.

The circular was signed by A.A. Bisiriyu, Director of Education (Private Schools), on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

This decision is likely to spark conversations among school leaders, parents, and education stakeholders, as graduation and end-of-session celebrations have become standard practices in many schools in Ogun State.
