Tinubu pushes bill to strengthen senior secondary education

President Bola Tinubu is urging the Senate to review and endorse the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio presented the President’s request in a letter during Thursday’s session.

In this correspondence, Tinubu informed the lawmakers that the Federal Executive Council approved the proposed amendment during its meeting on April 30, 2026, and it is now being sent to the National Assembly for their consideration.

The President explained that this legislation is designed to boost the functionality of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission and enhance the oversight of senior secondary education in Nigeria.

“The bill aims to enhance the management and governance of public senior secondary education in Nigeria,” the letter states.

Tinubu mentioned that the amendment aligns with his administration’s dedication to reinforcing educational institutions, ultimately enhancing learning experiences and aiding national progress.

“As a result of this and to further this administration’s goal of fortifying educational institutions for the benefit of the nation, I am sending the National Senior Secondary Education Commission Amendment Bill, 2026, for legislative consideration by the National Assembly,” he added.
