Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is advocating for transparency, fairness, and proper legal procedures in the justice system after being deeply affected by a widely shared video of Hajiya Asiya El-Rufai.
In a statement released on Thursday, Obi mentioned watching the tear-jerking video while he was in the United States, which led him to think about Nigeria’s future and its justice system.

Obi emphasized that no matter the accusations against Mallam Nasir El-Rufai or anyone else, justice should be served equitably, with bail terms that are fair and not seen as punitive before trial.
He highlighted that in a democracy founded on the rule of law, institutions are meant to protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of their status or background.

He urged law enforcement and other relevant institutions to carry out their responsibilities professionally and in strict compliance with due process.
The former Anambra State governor further called for a Nigeria where the rule of law prevails and every citizen is guaranteed dignity and justice, describing these principles as essential to building the “New Nigeria” he envisions.
