Furthermore, he stated that the state will collaborate with organizations such as the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to improve migration management and support services.

The Governor reaffirmed Oyo State’s strong stance against human trafficking and pledged to strengthen the Oyo State Reintegration Committee and other partners to provide comprehensive support for returnees.

Services offered will include temporary shelter, psychosocial support, skills training, economic empowerment, legal aid, and assistance with sustainable reintegration into society.

Earlier in the event, Dr. Sarah Adeyinka, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Amsterdam and the symposium convener, praised the Oyo State Government for its determination to combat human trafficking and assist survivors.

She noted that the initiative aims to help returnees recover from their traumatic experiences and rebuild their lives through collaborative efforts involving government entities and development partners.

Additionally, Mr. Kayode Alfred, the Oyo State Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), commended the state government for its collaboration with the agency and stakeholders in addressing human trafficking.

He urged Nigerians to remain cautious, particularly when interacting with strangers on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, as traffickers often masquerade as recruiters offering false job, scholarship, and travel opportunities to lure victims.
