Elder David Oluokun, an APC chieftain in Oyo State, has criticized the remarks made by Bimbo Adekanbi, the gubernatorial candidate for the Allied People’s Movement (APM), regarding the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, asserting that Adekanbi lacks the moral authority to undermine an administration he was part of.
In a statement titled “Why Bimbo Adekanbi Has No Moral Right to Criticize Senator Ajimobi’s Legacy,” Oluokun argued that as the Commissioner for Finance from 2011 to 2019 in Ajimobi’s administration, Adekanbi was a key cabinet member and should therefore bear some responsibility for the government’s decisions and policies.

He stated, “You cannot criticize the hand that fed you and then portray yourself as a reformer. If there were issues within that administration, he had ample opportunities to voice his concerns while in office.”
Oluokun further claimed that Adekanbi’s candidacy for APM was influenced by Governor Seyi Makinde, labeling him as a “handpicked candidate” rather than one emerging from a grassroots political movement.
Additionally, he challenged Adekanbi to publicly explain his performance in office, particularly regarding the state’s financial oversight, budget execution, and policy creation during the Ajimobi era.

While defending Ajimobi’s legacy, Oluokun characterized him as one of Oyo State’s most significant leaders, highlighting his initiatives in urban renewal, security enhancements, educational reforms, and drives for investment.
He acknowledged that while no administration is immune to criticism, attempts by a former cabinet member to undermine Ajimobi’s accomplishments were “inconsistent and disrespectful” to his legacy.
Oluokun urged voters to evaluate the qualifications of gubernatorial candidates closely, emphasizing that Oyo State needs leaders who are committed to integrity, consistency, and accountability.
