Lagos state agency denounces viral video of mother and siblings ridiculing bedwetting child

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has denounced a viral video showing a mother and her children publicly ridiculing a child for bedwetting.

In the footage, the mother and her kids mock a young boy for frequently wetting the bed. They alternated in front of the camera, each declaring in Yoruba that they were not the ones who wet the bed, with the boy being the last to speak, revealing himself as the bedwetting child.

Responding to the video, the agency labeled this behavior as verbal and emotional abuse, emphasizing that bedwetting should never be a reason to shame or humiliate a child.

“What we are witnessing is an instance of verbal and emotional abuse towards a child. Bedwetting should not serve as grounds for shame, ridicule, humiliation, or public exposure.
