The Lagos State Government has confirmed the arrest of a man who was filmed repeatedly beating a toddler for failing to read.
The upsetting video depicted the man striking the child on the head and body with what seemed to be a charger cable, leading to widespread outrage and demands for his arrest.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency reported that the suspect was detained on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, after they received a complaint and made contact with the child’s mother.

“Upon reaching out to the officers at the Family Support Unit, the Agency learned that the survivor’s mother had initially filed a report with the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency. Following this, the alleged offender was arrested on September 23, 2026, and is now in police custody while the case is under further investigation.
The survivor and her mother have also been referred to the General Hospital for urgent medical care and evaluation,” the agency stated.
