The Nigerian government has launched a personnel audit for civil servants with the objective of collecting each employee’s Bank Verification Number (BVN) and National Identification Number (NIN) to help eliminate ghost workers.
Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, announced this in a statement by Mrs. Eno Olotu, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the HCSF office in Abuja on Wednesday.

Walson-Jack noted that this initiative is part of President Bola Tinubuβs Renewed Hope Agenda and is designed to create a modern and efficient civil service.
She indicated that the audit will evaluate the workforce’s size, structure, and skill sets, as well as identify necessary skills for future service needs.

Furthermore, she mentioned that the initiative aims to establish a verified digital personnel database linked to NIN and BVN, which will aid in removing ghost workers, correcting discrepancies in employee records, and providing an accurate picture of the workforce.
βThe initiative will also identify skills gaps in critical areas such as ICT, project management, public finance and data analysis,β the statement added.
Walson-Jack announced that she would be leading the steering committee. The committee will include key permanent secretaries, the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Director-General of the Budget Office, representatives from the Presidency, and relevant consultants.
