Nigeria will not be intimidated — Tinubu responds to Trump’s military threat

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria will not yield to international pressure, especially in light of renewed accusations of Christian genocide and a military threat from former President Donald Trump.

In a statement on his verified X account on Friday, Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria will continue to enhance its presence on the global stage with “calm, clarity, and a strong sense of purpose” despite growing foreign scrutiny.

While acknowledging that terrorism remains a significant national issue, he reassured Nigerians of his administration’s determination to ultimately defeat insurgency.

“We are indeed confronted with terrorism, a challenge that has persisted for almost two decades, and we will not falter. We will decisively overcome terrorism and achieve victory in this fight,” Tinubu stated. “Security is non-negotiable, and we will not compromise on this principle. With unwavering resolve and a solid commitment to the rule of law, we will succeed.”

He also called on Nigeria’s international partners to enhance their collaboration with the country, highlighting that ongoing support is crucial for building on the progress already made in the security sector.

These comments follow President Donald Trump’s warning that he had directed the Pentagon to prepare for possible military intervention in Nigeria if the government continues to permit the killing of Christians. Trump also classified Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) due to allegations of extensive persecution.

Tinubu’s response reflects a steadfast position from the Nigerian government amid increasing global focus on the country’s security issues.
