The department emphasized that President Donald Trump “will always put the safety and interests of the American people first.”
The primary reasons cited for the revocations were criminal offenses. According to the State Department, the visas of 16,000 individuals were canceled due to driving under the influence (DUI) charges. Another 12,000 were revoked for assault, and 8,000 for theft-related offenses during the 2025 fiscal year.
Other grounds for the mass revocations included connections to terrorism, posing a threat to public safety, and overstaying previously issued visas.
