As part of efforts to discover and nurture emerging boxing talents in the region, Africa’s most structured boxing outfit Yucateco Boxing Promotions is set to stage a first of its kind Southwest Developmental Boxing Tournament in Abeokuta.
The championship aimed at propelling a new generation of boxers will be held in the Ogun State capital in June 2026.

For the initiator and sponsor of the highly anticipated event, Hon. Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, who also serves as the Southwest Boxing Zonal Representative and Vice President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) the tournament which will be held quarterly reflects his desire to develop and expose emerging talents in the squared ropes sports.

The coordinator of the tournament, Osuolale Leye David, hinted that the event would be rotational, moving to other South West states with the facilities to host every 3 months.
He called on states across the zone to rally round their teams and give the necessary support, saying collective effort will take Southwest boxing to greater heights.
