In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Shehu alleged that the teacher, Abdul-Jalal Usman, was suspended for three months without salary after declining to collect what he described as a “paltry” Ramadan support package consisting of one mudu of millet and rice.

According to Shehu, the teacher earns a monthly salary of about ₦35,000 and supports a family that includes his wife, three children, and an elderly mother.

“I was able to locate him through Malam Jabir and have already credited his account with ₦120,000, three months’ salary in advance, to mitigate the likely financial dislocation from the suspension,” Shehu wrote.

He further pledged continued support for the teacher if the Kebbi State Government decides to terminate his appointment. Shehu said he would help secure him a teaching position in any private community school within Kebbi State while personally committing to pay his salary with periodic upward reviews.

The activist also expressed disappointment over the situation, noting that the Kebbi State Governor was once a President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), which he argued should make the administration more protective of teachers’ welfare.

“The rejection of the paltry Ramadan palliative by the state government is a regular insult from Northern politicians who think everything starts and ends with palliative,” Shehu criticized, adding that it had happened before.

“It is well and it shall come to mass that the villains of today are those to be in fear and hiding tomorrow,” he concluded.

As of the time of filling this report, the Kebbi State Governor had not issued any official respo nse to the allegation
