Three prominent political figures from Oyo State, currently serving in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, are expected to resign from their posts by March 31. This move follows a presidential directive aimed at officials planning to contest in the 2027 general elections.
The directive, announced earlier this week, mandates that any political appointee with ambitions for elective office must step down from their current position. Dewan Goshit, Head of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), confirmed the order in a statement released on Tuesday.

The officials affected by this directive are reportedly Adebayo Adelabu, Adebayo Shittu, and Rauf Olaniyan. All three are considered gubernatorial hopefuls for the 2027 Oyo State election under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and must resign to pursue their political ambitions.
Adebayo Adelabu, a native of Ibadan, currently serves as the Minister of Power, a position he was appointed to by President Tinubu in 2023. He is a key figure expected to vie for the governorship.

Also on the list is Adebayo Shittu, who previously served as the Minister of Communications under former President Muhammadu Buhari. Shittu, from Saki in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone, was appointed by Tinubu in June 2024 as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Dave Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences.
The third individual, Rauf Olaniyan, is a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State. He was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, in July 2024.

As of now, none of the three have officially tendered their resignations. However, they are all expected to comply with the presidential order before the end-of-month deadline to focus on their respective gubernatorial campaigns.
