The incident, which reportedly occurred following a collision involving a gas tanker and another vehicle, sparked a massive fire that spread rapidly across the area.

Eyewitnesses described the explosion as “severe” and “terrifying,” with thick plumes of smoke and raging flames visible from surrounding estates.

Residents said the blast shook buildings and forced many to flee their homes in panic as the fire engulfed shops and residential structures.

Social Media Alert Raises Alarm

The first public alert about the explosion came from Lagos-based strategist Ayò-Bánkólé Akíntújoyè, who took to the social media platform X around 3:16 AM.

“There’s a massive gas explosion in the Ajah area of Lagos happening now. Multiple properties have been affected and situation is severe,” he posted.
