Senegal will now play either Ivory Coast or Egypt in the last-four phase.

The Lions of Teranga became the first nation to reach the last-four stage following a 1-0 hard-fought victory over 10-man Mali in a complex Quarter-final clash witnessed on Friday evening.

Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye was the difference maker in Tangier, scoring the lonely goal that separated the two sides.

With a lot at stake, Senegal commenced the West African affair with much urgency, making early attempts for a breakthrough.

Senegal’s goal and decesive moment arrived in the 27th minute, Iliman Ndiaye putting the ball in to back of the net after Young Africans custodian Diarra failed to clear a cross in the forbidden area.

Heading into the break, Mali woes striked further, with captain and Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma receiving marching orders for a second bookable offence.

Senegal couldn’t captilize on the numerical advantage after restart in a half that saw the troops commanded by Tom Saintfiet put a splendid display.

Senegal, appearing in their first semi-final since that 2021 triumph in Cameroon, will now await the winner between holders Ivory Coast and record winners, Egypt.
