Uganda finished second behind Bafana Bafana of South Africa during the AFCON Qualifying campaign enroute to seal a spot this year’s edition in Morocco.

This will be their eighth appearance at AFCON finals since it’s inauguration in 1957 after missing out on the 2021 and 2023 editions in Cameroon and Ivory Coast respectively.

Past AFCON performance

Uganda has had a mixed show at Africa’s flagship tournament, with their best overall display coming in 1978 when they emerged as runners-up behind Ghana.

The Cranes have played 23 games at finals, winning four, drawing three and lost on 16 different occasions and conceded 38 goals, a deficit of 17 to what they have managed to put in the opponents net.

Tactician at the helm

Uganda are coached by Joseph Paul Put, one of Africa’s most travelled tactians and has been in charge of the senior National team since 2023.

The experienced Belgian was on touchline in 2013 in Burkina Faso’s trek to AFCON finals where they lost to now Uganda group opponents, Nigeria.

Uganda named a 28 final roster for this year’s edition, a blend of youth, experience and overseas figures who switched  allegiances in recent months.

A perfect platform to showcase talent, the nation will look to the likes of Allan Okello, khalid Aucho, Rogers Mato and Denis Omedi in pursuit of a statement at the biggest stage.
