AIG Jimoh not involved in Lekki property demolition – Zone 2 Police

The Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos has strongly dismissed allegations accusing the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Jimoh Moshood, of involvement in the purported demolition of a ₦1 billion property in Lekki.

The clarification came via an official press release issued on November 3, 2026, signed by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Afolayan Gbenga. The command made it clear that the AIG neither visited the location in question nor deployed officers to carry out any demolition exercise.

According to the statement, police authorities were reacting to reports circulating across both print and digital media concerning a petition addressed to the Inspector General of Police. The petition was submitted by one Akeem Osuolale Ogunseye, whom police described as a notorious land grabber without any verifiable business or livelihood, calling for disciplinary action against AIG Jimoh Moshood over the alleged incident.

Setting the record straight, the police described the demolition claims as malicious and fabricated, designed solely to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force. The command emphasized that the alleged demolished structure is completely non-existent, challenging Ogunseye to provide verifiable evidence of police presence or deployment at the site.

“The Assistant Inspector General of Police did not at any point collude with Skyview Properties Limited or its representatives to demolish any property in Lekki or elsewhere in Lagos State,” the statement noted, reaffirming that the AIG acted strictly within constitutional bounds to preserve peace.

The command revealed that its attention was formally drawn to the dispute through a petition dated October 22, 2026, filed by legal firm C.O. Toyin Pinheiro (SAN) & Co. on behalf of Skyview Properties Limited. The petition sought the investigation and prosecution of Ogunseye and his accomplices on allegations including criminal trespass, threat to life, assault, malicious destruction of property, and unlawful possession of firearms.

Legal documents attached to the petition confirmed that the High Court of Lagos State, presided over by Justice K.A. Jose, had on June 30, 2025, ruled in favor of Skyview Properties Limited in suit number LD/1006CMW/2015. The court affirmed the firm’s rightful ownership of Plot 37, Block 77, Lekki Peninsula Scheme 1, registered under page 37, volume 2491 at the Land Registry.

The petition further alleged that on October 17, 2026, Ogunseye led armed thugs armed with dane guns, machetes, and charms to storm the Lekki site. The assailants allegedly inflicted severe injuries on engineers, architects, and site laborers while vandalizing ongoing construction work.

The Zone 2 Command reiterated that police intervention in property disputes is strictly aimed at preventing the breakdown of law and order, protecting lives, and enforcing the Lagos State Properties Protection Law of 2016 against forceful land encroachment.

A brewing real estate dispute in Lagos has escalated following allegations that armed hoodlums violently assaulted on-site construction workers and unlawfully padlocked a prime property in clear defiance of a High Court ruling.

According to a formal petition addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), the attackers—reportedly acting under the direction of one Akeem Osuolale Ogunseye—stormed the site located at Plot 37, Block 77, Lekki Peninsula Scheme 1. Engineers, expatriate personnel, and laborers sustained severe injuries and were forced to abandon the premises, which were subsequently sealed off with chains and padlocks despite the absence of any judicial stay of execution.

Court Affirms Skyview Properties’ Ownership

The alleged invasion directly contravenes a binding judgment issued by Justice K.A. Jose of the Lagos State High Court on June 30, 2025, in suit number LD/1006CMW/2015, which ruled definitively in favor of Skyview Properties Limited against Samuel Alao Ajibode and two co-defendants.

In the ruling, the court established several key orders:

Title Declaration: The court determined that under a registered Deed of Assignment (No. 37, Page 37, Volume 2491), the first defendant had transferred all rights and ownership to the Lekki property and no longer holds any legitimate claim under Certificate of Occupancy No. 50 (Volume 1900A). Perpetual Injunction: The first defendant, alongside his associates, agents, and privies, was perpetually restrained from trespassing on the land or harassing the claimant, its workforce, and contractors. Financial Damages: General damages amounting to N10 million were awarded against the first defendant as compensation for the continuous harassment, distress, and falsehoods inflicted upon the company.

Prompted by the escalating unrest, the petitioner has urged senior police authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry and prosecute those responsible before the situation deteriorates further.

Allegations Against Police Dismissed as Groundless

The controversy deepened after Ogunseye submitted a petition to the Inspector General of Police accusing AIG Jimoh Moshood of supervising the alleged demolition of a N1 billion property on the site. However, sources familiar with the matter have refuted these claims, pointing out that Ogunseye lacked any legal standing or established familial link to the original defendant, describing him instead as an unlawful interloper attempting an unauthorized takeover.

Authorities have firmly rejected the accusations against AIG Moshood, clarifying that no police officers or specialized units were dispatched to the Lekki property, nor was the senior officer present to oversee any demolition. Observers noted that Skyview Properties Limited has held continuous, undisturbed possession of the land since 1993, having erected all existing structures, including the perimeter fencing, security post, and foundations.

Officials characterized the claims of a police-backed N1 billion demolition as entirely fabricated, asserting that such baseless statements were manufactured solely to mislead the public and stir unwarranted hostility against law enforcement.

The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command in Lagos, has strongly dismissed allegations directed at Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh regarding a contested parcel of land in Lekki, describing the claims as a malicious smear campaign designed to disrupt ongoing investigations.

In a formal statement issued by the command, authorities confirmed that Akeem Osuolale Ogunseye, who leveled the accusations, has failed to present any legitimate title, deed of assignment, proof of purchase, or judicial order confirming his ownership of the land situated at Plot 37, Block 77, Lekki Peninsula Scheme 1. Police challenged Ogunseye to produce valid documentation or photographic proof substantiating his claims of police misconduct on the property, warning that he faces potential arrest and prosecution for land grabbing, criminal trespass, threat to life, assault, destruction of property, and defamation.

According to police records, Ogunseye submitted a petition on October 19 alleging beneficial interest in the property through an associate, Samuel Alao Ajibode, naming several individuals including Aare Ariwajoye, Arinze Obodo, and Akinjoba Batila. However, subsequent findings revealed that the rightful ownership of the property had already been settled by the courts in favor of Skyview Properties Limited.

In suit number LD/1006CMW/2015 (Skyview Properties Limited v. Mr. Samuel Alao Ajibode & 2 Ors), the court ruled against Ajibode, awarding 10 million Naira in general damages and two million Naira in legal costs to Skyview Properties Limited, whose lawful possession dates back to 1993. Authorities emphasized that claiming ownership derived from an individual who lost the title in court holds no legal standing.

The Zone 2 Command clarified that Ogunseye’s petition was dismissed strictly for lacking merit, preventing any violation of a subsisting court judgment or exposure to contempt proceedings. The police categorically denied media reports alleging that the petition was torn up, noting that the document remains preserved at the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID), where Ogunseye may report to address ongoing inquiries.

Reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law and due process under AIG Jimoh’s leadership, the command urged the public to disregard the reports as false and diversionary. Media organizations were also advised to thoroughly verify sources and avoid publishing defamatory or unverified claims that could carry legal repercussions.
