AIG Moshood Jimoh leads awareness drive on Election Violence and Road Safety in Lagos

The Nigeria Police Force, through the Zone 2 Command, commemorated the 2026 National Police Day with a series of public sensitisation programmes focused on curbing electoral violence and promoting road safety across Lagos and Ogun states.

Leading the initiative, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Moshood Jimoh, engaged key stakeholders, community members, and commercial drivers in awareness campaigns aimed at strengthening public responsibility and security consciousness.

The sensitisation exercise, held at the zonal headquarters, brought together stakeholders, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and the general public.

Participants were educated on the dangers of electoral violence and ballot snatching, with authorities emphasising the need for citizens to play active roles in safeguarding the integrity of elections.

Officials highlighted that preventing such acts requires collaboration between security agencies and the public, particularly during election periods.

As part of the activities, the police also carried out a targeted outreach programme for commercial drivers at the Obalende motor park in Lagos.

AIG Jimoh stressed the importance of responsible driving, warning against reckless behaviour such as overloading, speeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

He noted that commercial drivers occupy a strategic position in maintaining public order and safety, urging them to comply strictly with traffic laws to reduce road accidents and protect lives.

The AIG commended stakeholders for their participation and support in the National Police Day activities, describing the engagement as vital to community policing efforts.
