“Cancel Scam Culture”: Promoting Integrity and Positive Values Through Sports
This year’s edition is themed “Cancel Scam Culture”, a message Ayeni described as a bold and timely call for integrity, discipline, and accountability among young people.
“The Amuwo Games were born out of a need to channel youthful energy positively,” Ayeni explained.
“We observed how many youths were drifting toward social vices. Through sports, we decided to create a safe platform that encourages competition, discipline, and self-development. The theme this year is a direct call to reject shortcuts and embrace hard work and honesty.”
He added that the Games aim not only to identify sporting talents but also to promote community unity and nurture leadership qualities among participants.

Ayeni revealed that, with the support of various partners, registration for the Games remains completely free, allowing every interested athlete an equal opportunity to participate.
“Through our sponsors and supporters, we have been able to maintain free registration and offer medical and technical screenings for athletes,” he said.
“This year, we’re taking it a step further by introducing prize rewards to recognize and motivate our athletes who have shown dedication over the years.”
He emphasised that the Games have become a model for grassroots sports development in Lagos, offering young talents the chance to be discovered and supported by scouts from the Lagos State Sports Commission and private clubs.

Since its inception, the Amuwo Games have played a significant role in transforming youth engagement within the community.
“The Games started as an idea to counter negative energy in the community,” Ayeni said.
“Today, we are witnessing a full-blown movement that has given youths purpose and direction. Every edition has brought out new talents, and that’s the legacy we’re building.”
Ayeni expressed deep gratitude to the Lagos State Sports Commission, the Amuwo Odofin Local Government, and community leaders for their unwavering support in sustaining the initiative.
The Games will continue throughout November at multiple sporting venues within Amuwo Odofin LGA, with thousands of spectators expected to attend.
