Despite the moment of frustration, Lookman had earlier played a key role in Osimhen’s performance, creating two clear scoring opportunities for the striker, including a direct assist, underlining their overall effectiveness as an attacking partnership.

Reacting on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Egbi strongly defended Osimhen, warning fans against turning on one of Nigeria’s most important players.

“Are people so clueless to actually demand that Osimhen be dropped? Really? Come on. That’s a reach!Egbi wrote.

“If he’s dropped, do you have a replacement anywhere? We can’t be the ones to sabotage our own AFCON chances. Imagine the players reading this kind of talk online.”

Osimhen went on to score twice in the match, further silencing critics and reinforcing his status as the Super Eagles’ leading striker. The brief disagreement was later played down by head coach Eric Chelle, who said the matter would be handled internally.

Nigeria’s dominant win has strengthened their AFCON title push, with many supporters echoing Egbi’s view that unity and focus are crucial as the tournament progresses.
