“I am writing to formally resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” the letter, personally signed by Atiku Abubakar, stated. He extended his gratitude for the opportunities afforded to him by the party, acknowledging his two full terms as Vice President of Nigeria and two stints as a Presidential candidate as “one of the most significant chapters of my life.”

However, this gratitude was tempered by a clear statement of irreconcilable differences. “I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for,” Atiku articulated.

His departure, described as being made “with a heavy heart,” underscores deep-seated concerns within the party’s ranks. As a prominent voice and a consistent presidential aspirant under the PDP banner, Atiku’s exit is expected to trigger widespread discussions about the party’s future direction and stability.

“It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognizing the irreconcilable differences that have emerged,” the letter continued, concluding with a wish for the party’s future success.

“As a founding father of this esteemed Party, it is indeed heartbreaking for me to make this decision.”
