According to reports, the case was initially brought to the attention of the police on November 24, 2025, when a lawyer named Hamzat (last name withheld) notified authorities that his brother’s wife had been abducted by unknown armed individuals.

A police insider revealed that the alleged kidnappers first demanded a ransom of N10 million for Misturah’s release, which was later negotiated down to N3 million, ultimately leading to the payment of N2.5 million.

“Once the kidnapping was reported, the incident was logged for investigation. During the ransom talks, the demand was lowered to N3 million, and eventually, N2.5 million was paid, although the kidnappers hesitated to release the victim,” the source shared.

The source also noted that an operational team was dispatched to track the purported kidnappers and rescue the victim.

However, before the police could locate them, the complainant informed the authorities that Misturah had been released and was back with her family.

The following day, Misturah was called in for questioning at the police headquarters, where she claimed to have been abducted by six armed men in a silver Toyota Venza and taken to an undisclosed location.

She claimed that her iPhone 12 Pro Max was confiscated by the kidnappers, and that she was freed only after the N2.5 million ransom was paid into her bank account and transferred to the abductors.

Nonetheless, police investigations raised doubts about her story, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old man named Daniel on December 3, 2025, in Ede, Osun State.

Authorities reportedly found a SIM card used to set up a WhatsApp account for ransom negotiations, which was linked to him.

During questioning, Daniel revealed that he had known Misturah online for about two years and that she had asked to use his SIM card to register a WhatsApp account.

He provided her with a one-time password to activate the account.

He claimed that Misturah said the number would be used to address personal matters and later deactivated it after use.

According to him, she mentioned that the account was created to address issues with her husband Ridwan, who lives in South Africa.

When confronted with Daniel’s statement, Misturah allegedly confessed to orchestrating her own kidnapping to extort money from her husband.

Further investigations led to the recovery of her iPhone 12 Pro Max, which she had previously claimed was with the kidnappers.

It was found with a 34-year-old man named Yusuf Sodiq, who she reportedly sold it to for N380,000, with a request to refrain from inserting a SIM card until later.

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the situation, stating that investigations are ongoing and appropriate charges will be filed against the suspects upon completion of the inquiry.
