According to the governor, Egbetokun’s tenure as the 22nd indigenous Inspector-General of Police was marked by professionalism, reforms, and a steadfast commitment to national security.

“This event reflects our tradition of celebrating those who bring honour to Ogun State and Nigeria,” the governor said.
He further commended Kehinde Olugbenle for his leadership in fostering peace and preserving cultural values in the region.
Governor Abiodun highlighted Egbetokun’s contributions to strengthening public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force, particularly through institutional reforms and proactive policing strategies.
He also acknowledged the retired police chief’s role in addressing farmer-herder conflicts in Yewaland, noting that his interventions restored stability and boosted agricultural productivity.

Several dignitaries took turns to praise the former IGP’s character and achievements.
Senator Solomon Adeola described Egbetokun as a worthy ambassador of Yewaland: “This is a man who has served and represented us very well. We recognize his transformative impact on the police.”
He also revealed Egbetokun’s passion for the political advancement of Ogun West, including advocacy for a future governorship from the region.

Representing the current police leadership, Assistant Inspector-General Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, speaking on behalf of Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described Egbetokun’s career as exemplary.
“His tenure recorded significant achievements in crime prevention, control, and institutional strengthening,” he said.
The event also highlighted how Egbetokun’s reforms improved operational efficiency and public trust in the police.

Egbetokun Reflects on Values and Service
In an emotional response, Egbetokun attributed his success to the values instilled in him during his upbringing, discipline, honesty, and respect for the rule of law.
He shared a personal story from his early career, recalling how he rejected a ₦40,000 bribe at a time when his monthly salary was just ₦2,700.

“A good name is better than silver and gold,” he said, quoting his mother’s guiding principle.
Egbetokun also expressed gratitude to Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve as Inspector-General of Police, describing the honour as one shared with the people of Yewaland and Nigeria.
