According to the governor, Egbetokun’s tenure as the 22nd indigenous Inspector-General of Police was marked by professionalism, reforms, and a steadfast commitment to national security.

“This event reflects our tradition of celebrating those who bring honour to Ogun State and Nigeria,” the governor said.

He further commended Kehinde Olugbenle for his leadership in fostering peace and preserving cultural values in the region.

Governor Abiodun highlighted Egbetokun’s contributions to strengthening public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force, particularly through institutional reforms and proactive policing strategies.

In an emotional response, Egbetokun attributed his success to the values instilled in him during his upbringing, discipline, honesty, and respect for the rule of law.

He shared a personal story from his early career, recalling how he rejected a ₦40,000 bribe at a time when his monthly salary was just ₦2,700.

“A good name is better than silver and gold,” he said, quoting his mother’s guiding principle.

Egbetokun also expressed gratitude to Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve as Inspector-General of Police, describing the honour as one shared with the people of Yewaland and Nigeria.
