Driver detained in fatal crash involving LASU student

The Lagos State Police Command has taken a driver into custody following a fatal road accident that resulted in the death of a Lagos State University (LASU) student in the Igando area.

In a statement released on its official X account on Saturday night, the command confirmed it has launched a full investigation into the incident.

“The Command is aware of the incident, which is a fatal motor accident,” the post stated. “Following the report, the DPO Igando promptly visited the scene.”

Authorities confirmed that the deceased’s body has been moved to a mortuary and the driver involved is now in police custody. The vehicle has also been impounded as part of the ongoing investigation.

“The case has since been transferred to the Area Command,” the police added, assuring the public that all necessary legal actions will be taken in accordance with the law and urging for calm as the investigation proceeds.

The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday when a female student, identified only as Azeezat, was struck and killed by a vehicle in Igando.

Following the crash, tensions rose as students gathered at the Area M Police Division. A video circulating on social media showed students demanding justice for the deceased, alleging that officers were attempting to protect the driver and cover up the incident.
