Epe Alaro Bridge Crash Kills Four, Leaves 13 Casualties as LASTMA Blames Overspeeding

Four people have reportedly died following a fatal road crash involving a Dongfeng truck and a Toyota Hiace bus on Alaro City Bridge in Epe, Lagos State, while 13 other casualties were reported.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed the incident in a post on its official X account on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, attributing the crash to overspeeding.

The accident occurred on Alaro City Bridge, a road link in the Epe area of Lagos State, and prompted emergency and traffic management operations at the scene.

LASTMA Deploys Tow Truck to Crash Scene

According to the report, LASTMA deployed a tow truck to facilitate the removal of the vehicles involved in the accident.

The agency also said its officers were at the scene managing traffic congestion caused by the crash and supporting efforts to clear the affected area.

Motorists travelling through the route were advised to exercise caution while the response operations continued.

Overspeeding Identified as Suspected Cause

LASTMA attributed the crash to overspeeding, highlighting the dangers associated with excessive speed on Nigerian roads.

Driving above safe speed limits reduces a driver’s ability to react to sudden hazards and can increase the severity of collisions.

Motorists are therefore advised to observe speed limits, maintain safe distances from other vehicles and remain attentive, particularly when travelling on busy roads and bridges.

Alaro Bridge Crash Raises Road Safety Concerns in Epe

The reported fatalities have renewed attention on the importance of road safety and responsible driving in Lagos State.

The incident also underscores the need for motorists to comply with traffic regulations and for drivers of commercial vehicles to exercise particular caution when transporting passengers and goods.

As traffic management operations continued at the scene, motorists were urged to follow instructions from traffic officials and approach the affected route carefully.

Further details about the identities of the victims, the circumstances surrounding the collision and the condition of those affected were not provided in the report.
