Lagos State has faced another heartbreaking loss with the death of Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA). She passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, making it the fifth death of a female local government official in the state in the last two months.

The Forum of Council Managers officially announced her death in a statement stating: “With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of our dear Chairman, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, this afternoon, Monday, September 29, 2025. She was the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her death.”

The Forum also revealed that her burial would follow Islamic traditions on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, with the Janazah Prayer set to take place at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after Zuhr Prayer at 1:00 p.m., and burial at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara, at 2:00 p.m.

Mrs. Akinola’s death adds to the increasing number of female local government officials in Lagos State who have died within a brief period since the current council administration was inaugurated on July 27, 2025. Notably, Councillor Oluwakemi Rufai of Ward C in Ibeju Lekki Local Government died on August 13, shortly after her swearing-in. Just five days later, Councillor Zainab Shotayo of Ward C in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA also passed away. The unfortunate trend continued in September, with Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, dying on September 20, followed by Councillor Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan of Ward F, Somolu Local Government, on September 21.

The recent loss of Mrs. Akinola, occurring so closely after these events, has intensified feelings of grief in Badagry and across Lagos councils, with many describing this series of tragedies as unprecedented in the state’s local government history.
