Former Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, Mike Igini, has raised concerns that certain provisions in the 2026 Electoral Act could facilitate electoral fraud as the 2027 general elections approach.
In an interview with ARISE News, Igini criticized Section 63, which allows presiding officers to accept ballot papers lacking official INEC security features. He warned that this loophole could enable the introduction of counterfeit ballots into the electoral process.

He cautioned that such provisions might shift the resolution of election disputes from the polls to the judiciary, potentially intensifying political pressure on courts. Igini urged the National Assembly and INEC to amend the legislation, emphasizing that the integrity of the ballot is critical for maintaining credible elections.
