Expressing deep concern over the incident, Onazi called on the government and relevant authorities to take urgent action against drunk driving, which he described as a growing danger on Lagos roads.

“The government needs to urgently address the issue of drunk driving in Lagos. I almost lost my life last night because of two drunk guys in a car,” Onazi wrote.

The crash occurred shortly after the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner celebrated his birthday.

The milestone had attracted goodwill messages from prominent figures in Nigerian football, including former Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama and ex-Premier League forward Peter Odemwingie.

Onazi’s close call has once again drawn attention to the persistent road safety challenges in Lagos, where reckless driving and driving under the influence remain major threats to public safety.

His experience has sparked conversations online, with many fans and observers echoing his call for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent similar incidents in the future.
