“Go and bring Buhari home” – President Tinubu tells Shetima

In a solemn announcement, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu confirmed the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London today, June 13, 2025, at about 4:30 pm after a prolonged illness.

President Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the former First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, and the entire Buhari family. In a show of deep respect and national honour, he has directed Vice President, Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.

Former President Buhari, a significant figure in Nigeria’s history, was elected as a democratic president in 2015 and re-elected in 2019. He also served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.

As a mark of national mourning, President Tinubu has ordered that Nigerian flags be flown at half-staff across the country.
