The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a nationwide public holiday in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London.

The declaration, made by Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, follows the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the nation enters a seven-day mourning period to pay last respects to the late Nigerian leader.
Flags are to fly at half-mast from Sunday, July 13 to Saturday, July 19, across Nigeria and in all embassies and foreign missions.

In addition, the North-West Governorsβ Forum has separately declared a holiday in seven states Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara as part of coordinated mourning arrangements.
These states make up the political and cultural heartland of the late president.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who led Nigeria both as a military ruler and democratically elected president, will be buried in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., according to Islamic rites.
