Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, expressed his readiness to engage with members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) despite some facing corruption allegations. He emphasized that working closely with them provides an opportunity for positive change if they are indeed guilty.
During an interview on Saturday with Magic FM in Aba, Abia State, Obi referenced Jesus Christ, who socialized with tax collectors and sinners, as an example of how to effect change. He noted, “When Jesus was here, he associated with tax collectors and sinners as part of his mission to create change and build a better community.”

Obi also discussed the issue of selective persecution of politicians. He referenced Malami and El-Rufai, questioning, “Everyone knows the roles Malami and El-Rufai had in the current government. So why are they being targeted? The legal system is applied selectively, as some individuals who have committed worse offenses continue to operate freely while the government focuses on those it views as political adversaries.”

He pointed out that El-Rufai was presented by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on March 24 for alleged fraud and money laundering, while Malami, along with his wife Bashir Asabe and son Abdulaziz, is facing a 16-count accusation of alleged money laundering from the EFCC.
