Al-Kholood manager Des Buckingham has lauded former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, describing him as an essential leader whose impact on and off the pitch will be sorely missed.
Troost-Ekong, who joined the Saudi club from PAOK in the summer of 2024, recently completed a move to Qatari side Al Ahli SC during the January transfer window. Despite his short tenure, the defender left a significant impression on his manager.

“William is definitely the best leader I’ve ever worked with at this football club,” the Al-Kholood boss stated.
Buckingham also credited the former Udinese and Watford defender for playing a crucial role in his own transition into the club and for helping to establish a positive team culture.
“He has been a really important part of helping me get settled at the club and also making sure the things I just talked about with the culture and the environment are taken care of,” he explained.
“He has helped guide and support the players throughout that journey.”
