The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled a new schedule for the 2027 General Elections. According to this revised timetable, presidential and National Assembly candidates must submit their nomination forms between June 27 and July 11, 2026.
For governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates, the submission period is from July 18 to August 8, 2026, via the INEC nomination portal.

Campaigning for the presidential and National Assembly elections is set to begin on August 19, 2026, and will conclude on January 14, 2027. Campaigns for governorship and State Assembly elections will take place from September 9, 2026, to February 4, 2027.

The elections for the presidential and National Assembly positions are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections are planned for February 6, 2027.
INEC emphasized that this revised timetable complies with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that election campaigns commence 150 days prior to polling day and end 24 hours before voting begins.
The commission urged political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders to strictly follow the timetable and adhere to the Electoral Act to ensure a credible and orderly electoral process.
