Kaduna North and South unite for APC ahead of 2027 election, says Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani, the former senator for Kaduna Central, has announced that the historically divided North and South regions of Kaduna State are now united under a single political faction as they prepare for the 2027 presidential elections.

This revelation came after a discussion with House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and Senator Sunday Marshall alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Sani pointed out that for the first time since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, both the predominantly Muslim North and the mostly Christian South are politically aligned. Traditionally, the North has been loyal to parties like APP, CPC, and APC, while the South predominantly supported the PDP.

He noted that both regions are rallying behind Governor Uba Sani and President Tinubu due to significant development initiatives over the last two and a half years, including federal interventions in essential areas such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure, along with the governor’s inclusive leadership approach.

Sani emphasized that the current administration has greatly enhanced conditions in the state compared to prior to 2023, and stakeholders are dedicated to ensuring ongoing support throughout the upcoming election cycle.

Abbas further remarked that the recent influx of defections from the PDP to the APC, notably including Senator Marshall and several legislators, has strengthened this newfound unity. He expressed optimism that the APC has gained extensive support across all three senatorial zones in Kaduna, predicting a strong victory in 2027.

Senator Marshall also mentioned various development initiatives in Kaduna South, such as the creation of a university and a Federal Medical Centre, which have contributed to the region’s increased backing for the APC. He added that there are ongoing efforts to recruit more political figures into the party ahead of the elections.

Historically marked by political fragmentation along regional and religious lines, recent events indicate a move towards greater political cohesion  in Kaduna State.
