The stakeholders made the demand during a mega rally held in Ilorin, which drew the party members across the five local government areas within the district, and other key political figures.

At the event, the group also declared support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his administration’s performance over the past three years and endorsing him for a second term in office.

For fairness and equity the speakers at the rally made emphasis over the Kwara North producing the next governor, sought for other senatorial districts’support.

According to speakers, the district last held governorship position was between 1992 and 1993 during the aborted Third Republic, under Mohammed Shaaba Lafiagi. Since the return to democratic rule in 1999, they argued, Kwara South has produced a governor who served for eight years, while Kwara Central have produced governors spanning about 20 years by 2027—leaving Kwara North with no representation in the state’s top office.

Issa Bio Ibrahim, the former Minister of Transportation, assured that the district would deliver votes for President Tinubu, but stressed the need for reciprocal political support for Kwara North’s governorship ambition.

Similarly, former Commissioner for Information, Mumin Katibi, highlighted the district’s consistent electoral support for the APC since 2015, noting that it has often delivered the second-highest number of votes after Kwara Central.

Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers, the Emir of Lafiagi, Abubakar Kawu Kudu, said the district deserved consideration for the governorship based on principles of justice and fairness.

He disclosed the ongoing consultations with traditional rulers in Kwara South and plans to engage the Emir of Ilorin in Kwara Central, expressing optimism that their demand would gain wider support.

The Emir also noted that the district remained loyal to the APC in the 2023 governorship election, voting for the party’s candidate despite having a contender from the zone in another party. He attributed this to the performance of the incumbent governor seeking re-election at the time.

He pleased with the stakeholders across the state to prioritize “justice, brotherliness, and fairness” in determining the zoning of the governorship ticket.

From Kwara North APC governorship aspirants including Sodiq Suleiman, Yakubu Danladi, Tajudeen Audi, and Omar Bio attended the rally.
