The Lagos State Police Command has intensified security operations across the state, deploying additional personnel to schools, religious centres, markets, and entertainment hubs as part of efforts to safeguard residents during the festive season.
The move comes amid security incidents in other parts of Nigeria, including an attack on a Catholic church in Eruku, Kwara State, and the abduction of students in Kebbi and Niger states.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja on Sunday, Commissioner of Police Olorundare Jimoh reassured residents that Lagos remains secure.
“We have established a dedicated squad for the protection of schools, and our operations are proceeding smoothly with no cause for alarm,” he said.
Jimoh added that intelligence operatives are actively monitoring strategic locations to prevent criminal groups from infiltrating the state.
The commissioner revealed that policing efforts have been strengthened around major public assets and border communities.
He also noted enhanced security on the waterways following the deployment of 26 police gunboats recently commissioned by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

To further bolster maritime safety, the Command has created a Submarine Tactical Squad, tasked with improving rapid-response capability on water routes.
EkoStrike Force Expands Operations
On land, the EkoStrike Force, a tactical unit launched by the IGP to support the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), has expanded its patrol footprint across Lagos.
Jimoh confirmed that the unit’s upgraded operations have reduced response times and strengthened the Command’s ability to neutralise emerging threats.
A new permanent operational base for the EkoStrike Force has also been completed in Somolu Local Government, positioning the unit for better statewide coverage.
Tactical Units to Reach Every LGA and LCDA
The police chief announced that the tactical squad has grown from 23 to 35 teams, with plans underway to expand to 57 teams.
This expansion, he said, will ensure that every Local Government Area (LGA) and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos has a dedicated rapid-response team.
