The Lagos State Sports Commission has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to grassroots sports development as the 2025 Amuwo Games officially kicked off on Saturday, drawing over 50,000 residents from across the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area.
Representing the Director-General of the Commission, the Director of Sports, Nunayon Travih, pledged the state’s continued partnership with the organisers, emphasising that the Amuwo Games perfectly aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda to engage Lagosians through sports and community initiatives.

“The Sports Commission has supported the Amuwo Games from day one, and we’ll keep supporting it. This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring every Lagosian has the opportunity to participate in sports and discover their potential,” Travih stated.
“We have coaches and scouts across various sports disciplines identifying young talents within the age grades. These are the future stars who will represent Lagos and Nigeria on national and global stages.”
Grassroots Sports for Positive Change
The 2025 edition of the Amuwo Games, themed “Cancel Scam Culture,” aims to promote integrity, discipline, and accountability among youths while providing a safe avenue to redirect their energy toward productive and rewarding activities.
The event, which will run through November 23, features 16 different sports including football, basketball, athletics, swimming, volleyball, tennis, and chess, among others.
