LASPA takes action against illegal parking fee collectors in Ikeja

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has issued a strong warning to individuals and groups illegally collecting parking fees in the Computer Village area of Ikeja, urging an immediate halt to their activities or risk facing legal action.

In a statement from the agency’s General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu, LASPA revealed the discovery of a network of fraudulent operators allegedly working alongside touts to exploit unsuspecting drivers in this busy commercial district.

Adelabu noted that victims often experience double losses, as they may still incur penalties such as fines, confiscated number plates, or vehicle towing when official enforcement teams are deployed.

She emphasized that LASPA is the sole government entity authorized to regulate and enforce parking in Lagos State, clarifying that neither the Lagos Central Business District Authority nor any private organization has the right to impose parking fees.

“We are aware of these fraudulent activities, and we want it to be clear that LASPA is the only legitimate authority for parking management in Lagos State,” she affirmed.

Condemning the situation as intolerable, Adelabu remarked that the actions of these illegal operators hinder the government’s efforts to create an orderly and efficient parking system.

“These unlawful activities are a disservice to the public and impede the state’s goal of establishing a structured parking framework,” she added.

The agency indicated that it has stepped up surveillance and enforcement efforts across Computer Village and other areas of Lagos to tackle the issue.

Adelabu warned that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted, advising motorists to stay alert and only engage with authorized parking personnel.

“Drivers should ensure they interact only with LASPA-registered operators who can present valid ID and official receipts,” she cautioned.

LASPA also called on the public to report any suspicious activity through its official channels for prompt action.
