The Lekki Local Council Development Area has intensified efforts to combat drug abuse among young people with a targeted sensitisation programme held at Lekki Community High School.
The initiative, organised by the Office of the Supervisor for Youth Empowerment and Civic Engagement, aligns with the vision of the Executive Chairman, Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, to promote youth development and curb social vices within the LCDA.

Stakeholders Unite Against Drug Abuse
The sensitization programme brought together students, teachers, officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and other key stakeholders.

The school principal, Master Alade, welcomed participants and commended the initiative, noting its importance in shaping responsible future leaders.

NDLEA educators led interactive sessions highlighting the dangers of substance abuse, its health implications, and its link to social vices.
Students were encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles and make informed decisions.
A youth counsellor, Taiwo Aminat, delivered an in-depth lecture on commonly abused substances, outlining their physical and psychological effects, as well as long-term consequences on individuals and society.

Participants were also assured of available guidance and support systems for individuals struggling with drug-related issues.
Call for Collective Responsibility
In his remarks, Balogun I O, Supervisor for Youth Empowerment and Civic Engagement, emphasised the urgent need to address the growing incidence of drug abuse among youths.

He highlighted the critical roles of parental guidance, community involvement, and sustained awareness campaigns in tackling the menace.

Educational materials were distributed to students to reinforce the lessons shared during the programme, ensuring continued awareness beyond the event.
