LYDI, NYCN strengthen Youth Leadership with strategic PR workshop in Lagos

The Lagos Youth Development Institute (LYDI), in collaboration with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, has successfully hosted a capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing strategic communication skills among youth leaders across the state.

The programme, titled “PR for Impact: Strategic Communication for Youth Leadership,” brought together Public Relations Officers from NYCN local branches and youth-focused institutions, equipping them with modern public relations tools needed to effectively manage media engagement, digital communication, branding, and crisis response.

From the opening session, participants were actively engaged in discussions centred on professionalism, ethical communication, and the evolving role of public relations in youth leadership.

The workshop emphasised that PR is no longer a support function but a strategic leadership responsibility in today’s fast-paced digital environment.

The event officially commenced with goodwill messages from the Chairman of the NYCN Lagos State Chapter and the Director-General of LYDI, who both urged participants to embrace integrity, strategic thinking, and accountability in their communication roles.

Expert-led sessions were facilitated by senior communications professionals, including Ms. Orunsolu Fausiyat, Director of Media, Communications and Public Relations at LYDI; Ms Ruth Itepu, Deputy Director of Communications and Strategic Messaging; and Mr Victor K. Adogbajale, Public Relations Officer of NYCN Lagos State.

Their presentations addressed real-world challenges faced by youth communicators, offering practical solutions tailored to grassroots leadership structures.

The workshop also enjoyed the presence of key stakeholders, including the Director-General of LYDI, members of the NYCN Lagos State leadership, the State Public Relations Officer and his media team, as well as directors and staff of the LYDI Media and Communications Directorate.

In recognition of excellence and commitment, participants were awarded Certificates of Participation, while facilitators received Awards of Recognition for their contributions to youth development and strategic communication in Lagos State.
