Motorcyclist dies as Truck, Honda collide on Apapa–Oshodi Expressway

A tragic accident on Thursday morning claimed the life of a yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist following a collision involving a truck and a Honda Accord at Ibafon, along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway in Lagos State.

Fatal Crash Causes Traffic Gridlock

The incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m., brought traffic to a standstill as shocked onlookers gathered at the scene. Eyewitnesses described the crash as “gruesome,” with the victim reportedly dying instantly from the impact.

According to accounts, the accident happened when a speeding truck was overtaken by the Honda Accord. In the process, the motorcyclist, who was allegedly riding against traffic, collided head-on with the car.

Eyewitness Account

An eyewitness identified simply as Tunde narrated the sequence of events leading to the fatal collision.

“The truck brushed against the car, causing the driver to lose control. The car swerved off and hit the okada rider head-on. The impact was so severe that the motorcyclist died on the spot,” he said.

Driver Flees as Police Take Over Scene

In the aftermath of the crash, the truck driver reportedly fled, abandoning his vehicle and leaving the deceased at the scene.

Police operatives later arrived to restore order, cordon off the accident area, and take the Honda driver into custody for questioning.

The body of the motorcyclist was subsequently evacuated by emergency officials.

Authorities Warn Against Reckless Driving

While authorities are yet to release an official statement, the incident has once again highlighted the dangers of wrong-way riding and reckless overtaking, a recurring cause of fatal crashes on Lagos highways.

Residents and motorists have called on the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police to intensify enforcement along the Apapa–Oshodi corridor, notorious for heavy truck movement and frequent accidents.
