Before venturing into politics, Ambode spent 27 years in the Lagos State civil service, where he rose to become the Accountant General of Lagos State from 2006 to 2012.
During his time in office, Ambode’s administration focused on security, infrastructure expansion, and economic empowerment, introducing several urban renewal projects and boosting Lagos’ internally generated revenue.
Ambode’s political career took a turn in 2018 when he lost the APC gubernatorial primary election to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who went on to win the 2019 general election. Despite the setback, Ambode remained within the party and supported Sanwo-Olu’s campaign, facilitating a peaceful transition of power.

While the former governor has not publicly declared any political intentions, the renewed calls highlight a growing nostalgia among some Lagosians who see Ambode as a stabilising figure capable of steering the state through its next phase of development.
