This operation took place on July 31, following reliable intelligence received by the Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service regarding the activities of suspected smugglers in the area.

The operation involved personnel from NNS Beecroft, the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, and officers from the Western Marine Command, all deployed by the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command.
Patrick Ntadi, the Comptroller of the Western Marine Command, noted that the interception was made possible due to timely intelligence and the rapid support from the Nigerian Navy. He explained that Customs officers acted upon tips regarding the smugglers, and although the suspects resisted, the Navy played a crucial role in securing the vessels.
Ntadi confirmed the seizure of four boats, which were carrying a total of 518 bags of suspected smuggled rice, and emphasized that no weapons were found during this operation.

Commodore Aiwuyor Adams Aliu, the Commander of NNS Beecroft, stated that the interception was made possible by continuous monitoring from the Western Regional Control Centre, Falcon Eye. He also noted that the operation showcased the Navy’s advancing technological capabilities in maritime surveillance and intelligence.
Adams Aliu affirmed that NNS Beecroft will continue to focus on intelligence-driven operations and cooperate closely with relevant security and law enforcement bodies to address smuggling and other maritime crimes.
Additionally, he asserted the Navy’s commitment to ensuring that Nigeria’s waterways and coastal areas are not exploited as routes or refuges for criminal activities.
