Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Nigeria Debate Consortium has scheduled a major gubernatorial debate for the candidates vying for the Lagos State governorship seat on November 8, 2026.
The event is set to take place at 7:00 p.m. at The Hub by IALA, located on Plot 18, Providence Road, beside Keystone Bank in Marwa, Lekki, Lagos.
The consortium—a partnership between Channels Television, TVC News, Punch Newspaper, TheCable, and Vanguard Newspaper—announced that the Lagos session will launch a wider series of debates across critical battleground states, ultimately culminating in a nationwide presidential debate and town hall meeting.

In a joint statement, the media alliance explained that the initiative aims to offer a neutral, credible platform where candidates can articulate their policy manifestos, defend their governance strategies, and address key concerns affecting the people of Lagos.
Voters can expect discussions centered on pressing issues such as public transport, infrastructure development, state security, affordable housing, educational reform, healthcare delivery, and economic growth.
Highlighting the media’s duty to uphold democratic values, Channels Television stated that the debate is designed to move beyond campaign slogans and focus on practical solutions.
“Voters deserve more than campaign promises; they deserve clear answers, credible plans and an opportunity to assess those seeking their mandate,” the broadcaster noted, adding that placing policy at the center of the dialogue will empower the electorate to make informed decisions.

Echoing these sentiments, TVC News emphasized the need for candidates to show the depth of their plans rather than rely on empty political rhetoric.
“Citizens need to understand not only what candidates promise, but how they intend to deliver,” the network stated, stressing that a level playing field is essential for democratic accountability.
The organizers confirmed that the debate will follow strict professional standards, guaranteeing equal speaking time, unbiased moderation, and editorial independence. Seasoned journalists will guide the discussions, which will be aired live across the television and digital networks of all participating media houses.
The consortium urged Lagos residents, including first-time voters, young citizens, civil society groups, and the business community, to actively follow the broadcast and scrutinize the choices ahead of the state.
The formal announcement was co-signed by Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, Director of News at TVC News, and Kingsley Uranta, General Manager of Channels Television.
