Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing that the ongoing economic reforms are starting to produce results, particularly in the petroleum sector.
In his comments on recent occurrences, he recalled previous fuel shortages that forced Nigerians to face significant hardship in obtaining petrol. He remarked, “Since we took office, we haven’t seen three to five kilometers of cars queued up at petrol stations.” He added, “There was a point when Nigerians were willing to pay as high as N10,000 per litre, but the fuel was unavailable.”

Akpabio noted that the situation has improved, as petrol is now more accessible throughout the country, with little to no long lines at gas stations. He credited this progress to reforms in the downstream petroleum industry and greater involvement from the private sector.

He also mentioned that these reforms have enhanced local refining capabilities, decreased reliance on imported fuel, and ensured more stable supply. According to him, Nigeria is now producing a greater share of its fuel needs and is even exporting petroleum products.
