Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh has broken his silence over the controversial double murder case that has generated widespread debate on social media, insisting that justice must be allowed to run its full course.
The senior police officer, speaking during a meeting with rights activists at the Zone 2 Police Headquarters in Lagos, Jimoh disclosed that he resisted attempts to influence the investigation, including alleged bribery and pressure from influential individuals.

Jimoh thanked the visiting delegation for their solidarity and maintained that no amount of pressure, intimidation, or public criticism would influence his commitment to justice.

According to him, the case predates his appointment as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, explaining that the murders occurred in 2023 and 2024 before he assumed office.

He disclosed that his involvement began after the Inspector General of Police referred a petition submitted by the victims’ family through Chief Rotimi William Chambers.
The AIG explained that police investigations resulted in the arrest of two suspects whose confessional statements allegedly implicated another suspect, Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi.
Following the development, Akanbi was declared wanted before being traced overseas.
Jimoh revealed that with the assistance of Interpol, the suspect was apprehended abroad, extradited to Nigeria, and is currently facing prosecution before a competent court.
The police chief alleged that throughout the investigation, several individuals attempted to interfere with the process.
According to him, efforts were made to influence him through family connections and financial inducements, but he rejected every attempt.

Although he declined to identify those allegedly involved, Jimoh stressed that his decisions were guided solely by the evidence before investigators.
AIG declines public debate while case is before court
With the matter now before the courts, Jimoh noted that he could not comment extensively on issues relating to the case because it is sub judice.
He emphasised that once criminal matters reach the trial stage, the responsibility shifts to the judiciary.
The AIG advised anyone dissatisfied with the investigation to seek legal remedies rather than conducting trials on social media or through the press.

Jimoh also addressed criticisms directed at him by social media personality VeryDarkBlackMan, saying he would not engage in public exchanges while the case remains before the court.
He urged content creators and media practitioners to avoid being used to damage the reputation of officers carrying out their lawful responsibilities.
According to him, the integrity of the judicial process must be respected until the court reaches its final decision.
Rights activists declare support for AIG
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Declan Ihakaire described the visit as a show of confidence in Jimoh’s leadership and professionalism.

He argued that the online attacks against the police chief were inconsistent with his experience during Jimoh’s tenure as Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
“As long as the current AIG is doing what is right and lawful, we are solidly behind him. But if tomorrow he decides to act otherwise, we will challenge him. For now, we stand by him and anyone dissatisfied should seek redress in court instead of maligning him,” Ihakaire said.
Other members of the delegation, including Olatunde Owoeye Wise, Efe Brume, Elijah Ajanu, and legal practitioner Akintunde Adedeji, also appealed for restraint in public commentary.
They urged citizens with complaints against police officers to pursue lawful channels instead of social media campaigns.
The group further called on police authorities to address internal information leaks, arguing that unauthorised disclosures weaken public confidence in law enforcement and discourage cooperation from citizens.
They also advocated stronger regulation of online content to discourage misinformation while maintaining that police actions should remain open to scrutiny through established legal processes.
