NYSC DG advises Corps Members on security awareness and personal development

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has cautioned Corps Members to remain vigilant about security issues and avoid activities that could put their lives at risk during their service year.

General Nafiu advised while addressing 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Corps Members at the NYSC Kogi State Orientation Camp in Asaya, stressing that personal safety should be a top priority throughout the programme.

He specifically warned against night journeys and other risky engagements that could expose Corps Members to danger.

The NYSC boss also encouraged the young graduates to maximise the opportunities offered by the service year by building meaningful relationships and professional networks that could support their future careers and personal growth.

According to him, the service year should be seen not only as a national obligation but also as a foundation for long-term success.

Emphasising core values, General Nafiu highlighted the importance of discipline, dedication, and hard work, describing them as essential qualities for individual development and national progress.

He further advised Corps Members to cultivate a strong savings culture and practise prudent financial management to better prepare for life after national service.

Earlier, the NYSC Kogi State Coordinator, Mr Femi Osungbohun, briefed the Director-General on camp activities, revealing that a total of 1,049 Corps Members had been successfully registered at the orientation camp.

Mr Osungbohun commended the Corps Members for their discipline and good conduct since the commencement of the orientation programme.

He added that all camp activities were running smoothly, attributing the success recorded so far to the dedication, cooperation, and teamwork of camp officials.

The visit underscored the NYSC management’s continued commitment to the welfare, safety, and overall development of Corps Members across the country.
