Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has directed the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, to step down from his position pending an investigation into a recent student protest that disrupted order on the institution’s main campus.
In response to the unrest, the governor established a three-member panel on Wednesday to investigate the immediate and underlying causes of the incident. The committee has been given two weeks to deliver its findings.

The investigative panel will be chaired by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman. Other members include the Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Buge, and the Permanent Secretary for Service Welfare, Dr. Mercy Olufunke Shittu.
The committee’s mandate is to examine the factors leading to the protest, evaluate how the situation was managed, and propose measures to prevent future occurrences. The panel is also tasked with providing recommendations for the overall advancement of the polytechnic.

“The governor has meanwhile directed the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, to immediately step aside from his role until further notice, while the most senior Deputy Rector acts in his place in the interim,” the statement read.
The commissioner added that the committee will consult with all relevant stakeholders as part of its investigation.
