The Federal Government has unveiled its intention to substitute the khaki uniforms of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with locally made Adire fabric as part of major reforms designed to enhance Nigeria’s economy and textile sector.
Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, announced this plan during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday.

The minister stated that this initiative aligns with the government’s goal of prioritizing local production and ensuring that public funds are allocated to Nigerian-made products. “It’s Adire. Adire is produced in Nigeria, particularly in Ogun and Kwara, where we have a textile industry. We need to reinvest our money into the country,” Olawande said.

He emphasized that this change could boost local industries, especially in textiles, by creating more opportunities for domestic manufacturers and artisans through increased government support.
